Faith

Hebrews 11:1
Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

Hebrews 11:6
But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.

Galatians 3:11
But that no man is justified by the law and the site of God, it is evident: for, the just shall live by faith.

James 2:17&18
In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, it is dead. But someone will say, "you have faith; I have works." Show me your faith without works, and I will show you my faith by what I do.

What is faith and what do we do with it? Faith is the substance of things that are hoped for and the evidence of things that are not seen. Why is faith so important to us as Christians? God is not someone that we can physically see and touch. God is with us in spirit. As humans, we often get the attitude that we will believe it if we see it. Really, the order for us is to believe it and then we will see it. Faith is what allows us to believe in God and know that He is real. At a Bible study the other night, the study leader said, "If you can believe that God made the heavens and the earth, then the rest of the Bible is very easy to believe and comprehend." I thought this was a very good saying. If we believe that God just spoke these things into existence, then our finite minds should easily grasp the other ideas in the Bible. Basically, without faith, it would be impossible for us, as Christians, to believe what we know about God and Jesus Christ.

What do we need to be doing with our faith? We need to be putting our faith to work. It is impossible for us to receive all the gifts and blessings from God if we are not putting our faith to work. There are countless stories in the Bible that site miracles that were performed by Jesus. He healed multitudes of people. Each time He healed someone, what did He say to them? He said, "your faith has healed you." We can't get anything from God if we don't have faith. In Luke 7:50, and He said to the woman, "thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace." In Matthew 21:21, Jesus told His disciples that if they had faith, they could tell a mountain to throw itself into the sea and if they did not doubt in their heart, the mountain would have to obey their words. This tells us how much faith can really do. We may not need to move landscapes, but surely we all have mountainous problems in our lives that could move with our faith.

So how do we get our faith? In Romans 10:17, it says, faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. What does that mean? That means shake the dust off your Bible and start reading the word of God so you can renew, restore, and strengthen your faith. How can you have in faith in something that you do not know about? We all know the bits and pieces that we get in a Sunday morning service, but that's not enough. You have to know the word for yourself, dig into it and start seeking God diligently and you will realize the faith that you never knew you had.

Since we can't see God, how do we know we are heading in the right direction? In 2 Corithians5:7, it says, for we walk by faith, not by sight. We do not follow God because we can physically see Him; we follow God because we have faith and believe. I also want you to know that if you put your faith to work and stand firm on the promises of God, you will see Him work in your life like you could not have ever imagined. Then you will have some tangible evidence and know for sure that God is who He says He is. He is the everlasting God, He is the I am, He is the Alpha and the Omega, He is our provider, and He is the Lord that heals thee. So start putting your faith to work and be prepared for miracles to take place in your life because if you believe, you will receive!!!!
