Romans 4:18-24
Please read this passage in your Bible.

Righteousness: 1. acting in accord with divine or moral law: free from guilt or sin
                         2. morally right or justifiable

What does it mean to be clothed with righteousness? This is God's plan for us after we receive salvation through Christ. He extends us His grace by offering us salvation through our confession, and His forgiveness of sin. Our next step is to throw off sin and walk upright, no longer practicing sin. That does not mean that we will never sin again, it means that we no longer intentionally do things that are of a sinful nature. Although we may try our best not to, we still stumble from time to time. We cannot walk through this sinful world on our own, we need help in order for us to be able to have purified hearts and minds. That is why God sends us His Holy Spirit; to help and guide us.

When God promised Abraham that his wife Sarah would bear him a son, Abraham was about one hundred years old and Sarah had already gone through "the change of life". Abraham believed two things which God credited to him as righteousness:
                                                   1. That God would keep His promise.
                                                   2. The fact that what God had promised, He was also able to perform.

Because Abraham did not stagger at the promise of God, although he and Sarah having a child was against all odds, God found him to be righteous. How did Abraham get to the point of being called righteous by God? He obeyed God's commands, kept His decrees, and believed in God to fulfill all that He had promised.

How do we become clothed with righteousness? We have to obey God's commands. We have to strive to walk free of sin. We have to uphold and practice God's word, which is the Bible, so that we can be free from guilt. Like I said earlier, we, as mere humans, cannot accomplish this on our own. We need the Holy Spirit to guide us and teach us. The Holy Spirit is what help us to purify our hearts, purify our minds, pray, worship in spirit (not just in flesh), gives us strength, and tells us what to say (when we are teaching, preaching, testifying, etc.). The Holy Spirit can only come on Jesus. One might say, how do I get the Holy Spirit then? If you have Jesus living on the inside of you, then you are a candidate for the Holy Spirit. You see where I'm going, don't you? If you are reading this now and you need guidance , help, courage, and strength to shed off the world's clothing and put on the clothing of righteousness, which is from God, then invite Jesus to live in your heart and ask Him for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Now God can give you some new clothes to put on. He will guide you in paths of righteousness for His name's sake. (Psalms 23:3)
