Giving Thanks

1 Thessalonians 5:18
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Christians are to be marked by thanksgiving!!!!

Ephesians 5:4
Let there be no filthiness or foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving, in contrast to crude joking and foolish talk, is the positive way to speak. It also counteracts covetousness. The way to avoid being envious about the possessions of others, is to concentrate with thanks on the things that the Lord has given you.

Ephesians 5:20
Giving thanks always and for everything to God the father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Praying in the name of Jesus means that you are praying in faith. You are trusting Him as the mediator or intercessor with God the father on the throne of grace.
mediator- a negotiator who acts as a link between two or more parties

Colossians 2:7
Rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.

Paul uses the images of a tree (rooted) and a building (built up) to remind them of their firm foundation and what they have already been taught. They should not listen to any rival teaching.

Colossians 3:15
And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which in deed you were called in one body. And be thankful.

Colossians 3:17
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the father through Him.

The centrality of Christ does not diminish the Father but it brings Him glory.

Colossians 4:2
Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.

Paul is calling all Christians to a lifestyle of constant prayer.

being watchful in it- Jesus warned His disciples to watch and pray so that they would not fall into temptation.

Thanksgiving- leavens prayer, so that it does not become a merely selfish pleading to have one's desires fulfilled.

How often do you give thanks to God for what He has done for you? We ought to live our lives in constant thanksgiving to God for all that He has provided, for all that He has done, for saving us from death and eternal suffering. "Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name. For the Lord is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations." (Psalms 100:4-5)

People should know that we are Christians because of our constant thanks to God. It should be heard in the way we talk. When you are saved, and sanctified and filled with the Holy Ghost, everything you talk about and everything you do is going to be giving thanks to God and glorifying His name through Jesus Christ! Give thanks to the King of kings. When you are thankful for all that you have, you don't worry about the things that you don't have. The problem with most people today is that they want everything that everyone else has and they don't realize the gifts that they have been blessed with. This is what causes people to steal, to commit adultery, to commit murder, because they want something that someone else has. Be thankful for what God has given you; because what He has given you, he trusts only to you and to no one else. He has given you things that He made for you to have, be thankful, giving thanks that He found you to be worthy of that wife He gave you and stop wanting what someone else has! We think everyone has it better than we do. Most of the time people would pay to get rid of what others are wanting so badly. Because those who want it and don't have it, don't realize the trouble and the pain and suffering that comes along with it. Stop worrying about what your neighbor has and praise and thank God for all that you have been blessed with!

Give thanks to the Father in the name of Jesus Christ. Everything that God has given us, He has given us through His son Jesus. Everything that we need, we ask from God in the name of His son Jesus. Jesus is the only way to get an answer from God. Praying and giving thanks in the name of Jesus means you are praying with faith, faith that Jesus is the Son of God and that all things have been established through Him in order that the Father can be glorified. Jesus doesn't take away from the Father but anything that you do in the name of Jesus brings glory to the Father. Give thanks to Jesus, for He is our intercessor, Jesus is sitting at the right hand of God, the Father and He said, "anything you ask the Father, in my name, He shall give it to you." We can only talk to God through Jesus. I imagine that it touches the heart of Jesus when we ask God to do something for someone else, I can imagine Jesus sitting there by God and saying, "they are concerned with someone other than themselves, give them what they are asking, give it to them Lord!".

Thanking Jesus throughout your times of trouble lets Him know that you have faith that He is in control. When you are going through trials and tribulations, thank Him for what you have been blessed with, thank Him because you know that He is there, He has gone before you, He knows the outcome of the situation and you know that He will bring you out of it victoriously! Give Him thanks and let Him know that He is in control of your life, you submit to His will and to His word, you stand firm on the faith, you can't be shaken by strife, you can't be moved by adversity, you are a child of God, He will see you through it, He will bring you out of it!! Thank Him for the victory!!! Thank you Jesus! Thank Him in prayer. Let Him know that your prayers are not just selfish requests. Give Him thanks for the answer even before you ask the question.

Pray steadfastly, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. What do you need to be watchful of? Be watchful of sin, watchful of temptation. God told Cain, "sin is crouching at the door, you rule over it or it will rule over you." Pray constantly that you do not slip, you do not stumble and give thanks that Jesus is your guide, He is the light for your path. Stay close to Jesus and maintain a relationship with Him through prayer and thanksgiving. Give constant thanks to God for all He is and will be. We should wake up and go to bed giving thanks. We are here by design, not by chance, and we should be thankful that God, through Jesus Christ, has chosen us. Thank you Jesus!

Father we give thanks for your mercy and grace. Thank you for all that you have blessed us with in our lives. Thank you for the things that you have entrusted with us. Thank you for the people that you have entrusted to us. Thank you that you found me fit to be your Apostle and to share in your power and in your glory. Praise be to the Lord God Almighty through the Son Jesus Christ forever and ever, Amen!

God bless you precious people! If you do not know what it is to have a relationship with Christ, you are missing out on the best part of life! I beg you today, give Him a chance. Pray the prayer of Faith and Confession, ask Him into your heart today. We love you and are here for you.
