True Freedom

Micah 7:19
You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea.

God will deal with the sins of His people by casting them into the sea. This is God telling us that He no longer counts our sin against us. In His eyes and according to His standards, not man's, we are freed from sin.

Jeremiah 31:34
No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying "Know the Lord," because they  will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the Lord. "For I will forgive their wickedness and I will remember their sins no more.

All covenant partners will know God and know His character, love, and expectations. In Old Testament times, the people only knew of God from what the prophets told them. Everyone did not have a personal, one on one relationship with God until Jesus came. Those that are in covenant with God; He will no longer remember their sins. This is more proof that God does not hold our sins against us once we have repented and accepted Jesus Christ. I can't emphasize this enough. I believe that people who do not fully understand this process cannot live life the way God intended. If you are always down on yourself because of your past sin, you can't be a faithful servant to God. How can you serve God if you are not happy with yourself? In my opinion, you put yourself before God by focusing too much on what you have done, why you have done it, how ashamed you are of it. You allow your past sin to consume you to the point that you can't move forward in your walk with God. Forget your sin! If God can forget it, so can you; are you better than God?

Covenant- an agreement, usually formal, between two or more persons to do or not do something specified.

Matthew 11:28-30
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is  easy, and my burden is light.

Yoke- the wooden frame joining two animals (usually oxen) for pulling heavy loads.

Jesus can set you free and lighten your load!

11:28
Come to me- this is a personal invitation, made by Jesus, for us to trust Him. This involves more than just believing historical facts about Him. Jesus wants us to fully rely upon Him. If we can learn how to fully trust Jesus and lean on Him 100%, we will no longer be subjected to the worry and anxiety in life. We will not be shaken, having full faith that Jesus is in control. He has gone before us and is here with us.

All who labor and are heavy laden- Jesus is referring to the people that were oppressed by religious legalism imposed by the scribes and the Pharisees. The application for present time is that Jesus provides rest for our souls. The rest He provides is no ordinary rest. We are talking about eternal rest and freedom from trying to earn salvation by good works. All we have to do is seek forgiveness from God, through Christ, and we will become heirs of His rest.

11:29
Yoke- this is a metaphor that Jesus uses to describe our subjection to Him. It was also the common metaphor in Judaism for "the law". The Pharisees' interpretation of the law had become so complex with ceremony and ritualistic ideas because of man's corruption in it, the people felt as if they were yoked to a burdensome and troubling way of living. Jesus' yoke of discipleship brings rest through simple commitment to Him.

1 John 5:3
For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.

If we rely totally on Jesus, bringing our burdens to Him and realizing that He is in control, we can gain "true freedom" in life. Our freedom is a result of shedding our guilt from sin, through forgiveness in Jesus, and keeping God's commands. God's commands are set up to help us avoid being caught up in circumstances that will not bear good fruit for us, nor will give glory and honor to God. In trust, we learn to follow His commands earning eternal freedom and rest through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Father I pray that you will grant me the strength, wisdom and ability to keep all of your commands. Help me to realize that you gave them as a guide to keep me under the power of your protection. Do not allow me to put you second in my life by my constant focus on my mistakes. Give me power to forget those mistakes and to seek you diligently. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

If you have not experienced true freedom in life or do not know Jesus, I beg you to pray the prayer of Faith and Confession today. You can find it right here on this website.
