How God uses Foolishness

1Corinthians 1:18:
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
1Corinthians 1:25:
For the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man's strength.
1Corinthians 1:27:
But God chose the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to confound the strong.
1Corinthians 2:14:
The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them because they are spiritually discerned.
1Corinthians 3:19:
For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God's sight. As it is written: "He catches the wise in their craftiness."
1Corinthians  4:10:
We are fools for Christ, but you are so wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are honored, but we are despised.

Definitions
Foolish- actions which show a lack of wisdom or faulty and shallow reasoning
Confound- to cause surprise or confusion; mix with something else so that the individual elements become difficult to distinguish

Brief History
The letter to the Corinthians was written about AD55, during Paul's third mission trip. He writes from Ephesus, a large city on what is now Turkey's west coast. Corinth was a busy trade center with ports in 2 oceans.
His main point of the entire letter was to instruct or convince the Christians in Corinth to "live in harmony with one another."

About Paul
He was an ex Pharisee that was converted by Jesus himself (in the resurrected state) while traveling to Damascus. Paul was on his way to execute newly converted Christians when he encountered Christ.

1Cor1:18- To the world, Jesus on the cross is just a tragic event in history. The world does not understand that Jesus did more than just die on the cross, he conquered death, hell and the grave. They do not accept that he bore our sin and our shame. Jesus said, "this one thing I receive from my Father, He gave me the power to lay my life down and He gave me the power to take it back up." Because the world does not understand, they cannot fathom the power of the cross.
1Cor1:25- Even in the Bible events that may seem like foolishness to man, such as the talking donkey (Numbers 22:28-30), God's use of this "foolishness" is wiser than man's ability, through the wisdom the world offers, to accept it. Even the weakest believer has more strength through God than through the strength of men.
1Cor1:27- Once again, God uses things that seem foolish to people but leaves people stunned and speechless. God used a shepherd boy (David) to defeat a giant (Goliath).
1Cor2:14- Someone that does not have the Holy Spirit has not been enlightened by God. God reveals his message to his people through the Holy Spirit.
1Cor3:19- The wisdom that people seek on earth is temporary and useless. People seek "worldly" wisdom for "worldly" gain. People who seek Godly wisdom seek it for spiritual gain and for building up the Kingdom of Heaven.
1Cor4:10- We seek Christ and his wisdom. We go where he sends us, we do what he tells us. In the 1960's, Connie Francis sang "Everybody's Somebody's Fool". Who's fool are you?

Summary
God, Jesus, and the Bible cannot be dissected. There are things in God's word that do not make sense to the world. As followers of Christ, we know they are true. This is why the bible says, "we live by faith, not by sight." This walk isn't carnal, it's supernatural. We are born again people! This is something else that cannot be understood by those that do not have a relationship with Christ. This is why God uses foolish things of the world; so that when people see that God can pick up foolishness and use it as a vessel to channel his power through, then they too might get saved because of that testimony. Think about the foolish things we did before getting saved. Aren't you glad God uses foolishness? Every aspect of this gospel can't be explained in the physical realm. This is why God gives us the Holy Spirit so that we can experience and understand these things in the spiritual realm that can't be understood in the physical realm. The gospel is a mystery! If you aren't saved, it's like reading another language. If you want to be able to understand the bible, then you have to get to know the interpreter! If you want answers to the foolishness of the world, keep seeking the world. If you want to figure out why what sounds like foolishness to you leaves you dumb founded, then establish a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Click on the Salvation tab at the top of this page and hold on to your shorts! I hope that you will decide to start unraveling the mystery of this gospel today! God bless you and we love you!!
