When the Gospel Makes Sense

Colossians 1:27&28:
To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.

Definitions
warn- togivenotice,advice,orintimationto(aperson,group,etc.)ofdanger, impending evil
teach- toimpartknowledgeoforskillin;giveinstructionin

Summary
You have heard the old saying, "that's Greek to me", for some people, that is exactly how God's word is to them. If someone does not know Jesus as their Savior, and does not have the Holy Spirit living in them, there is no way they can make sense of the gospel of Jesus Christ. It is like reading a foreign language. The bible speaks of spiritual things discerned through God's wisdom. Someone that is not saved only has the wisdom of the world to use to interpret the gospel. This is why we are called blind before we become sa…

The Beautiful Miracle

Acts 3:1-10:
Now Peter and John went up together to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms from those who entered the temple; who, seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked for alms. And fixing his eyes on him, with John, Peter said, "Look at us." So he gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. Then Peter said, "Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk." And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them- walking, leaping, and praising God. Then they knew that it was he who sat begging alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and…

Living out of Love

2 Corinthians 5: 14-15
For Christ's love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.

Definitions
compel- to force or drive, especially to a course of action
convict- to impress with a sense of guilt
condemn- to pronounce to be guilty; sentence to punishment

Summary
Christ's love for us should compel us to live for him. Since we know that Jesus died for the sins of the entire world we are convinced that he died for all, everyone. This belief of Jesus dying for us should force us to a course of action, right? What is that course of action? To live for him. How do we live for him? By keeping his commands, sharing his love, and spreading his gospel. Are you living for him? As Christians, it should be our number one desire to live everyday for Jesus, completely on fire for him! Many of us do not act in this way. We do n…

God Can't be Bought

Acts 8:20-23:
Peter answered: "May your money parish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money! You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God. Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord. Perhaps he will forgive you for having such a thought in your heart. For I see that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin."

Summary
If you read the entire story in scripture, you will find that this is talking about a man named Simon, he practiced sorcery for a time. He heard Phillip preach, believed on Jesus and was baptized. Later on, Peter and John came to town because they had been hearing of all the people that were being saved where Phillip was preaching. They laid their hands on the people so that they could receive the Holy Spirit. When Simon saw this, he wanted to pay Peter and John for them to give him the ability to lay his hands on people to receive the Holy Spirit. Of course, they admonished him for…

The Foundation of God

2 Timothy 2:19
Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: "The Lord knows those who are His," and, "Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity."

Definitions
foundation- the strong base on which a building is erected
seal- symbol used as attestation or evidence of authenticity
iniquity- sin, wickedness, or evil

Summary
There are a lot of people that have since the beginning, and still do question God, Jesus, and the Bible as God's word. There are many that believe that God exists but do not believe that Jesus was his Son. There are many that may believe that God is the Father, Jesus is the Son but do not believe in the Holy Spirit. Some people do not believe any of it. Not too long ago, my teenage daughter asked me how do I know that God is real. I actually surprised myself with the answer I gave her. If I had known that she was going to ask, I would have prepared myself for the answer. Had we been at home, I would have ref…

Handling God's Word

2 Timothy 2:15:
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Definitions
diligent- constant in effort to accomplish something; attentive and persistent in doing anything
approved- pronounce or consider agreeable or good; judge favorably
work- exertion or effort directed to produce or accomplish something
ashamed- distressed or embarrassed by feeling of guilt, foolishness, or disgrace
rightly- in accordance with truth or fact; correctly
dividing- to deal out in parts; distribute in shares; apportion

Summary
In order to really have the truth revealed, we have to "dig" into the Word of God and see what is really going on. There is more to it than reading a few verses or listening to the preacher on Sunday morning. Preachers are challenged with trying to get a point across in a short span of time. So we have to invest time in finding out what God is wanting us to know. The more you seek and search, the mo…

Singing Praise

Ephesians 5:19-20:
speak to one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Definitions
hymn- a song of praise and thanksgiving to God
psalm- a sacred song or hymn
music- an art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and color

Summary
When we talk to each other we need to be uplifting. We should be giving each other encouragement as the body of Christ. There is plenty of negativity that we face outside of the church. The goal for God's people, for one another, should be to lift each other's spirits.

We should be constantly singing God's praises. If you do not feel like you should be doing this, then you are not getting the full experience of God. When you experience God and his Holy Spirit, you can not help but to be constantly singing his praises and gi…
