The Foundation of God

2 Timothy 2:19
Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: "The Lord knows those who are His," and, "Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity."

foundation- the strong base on which a building is erected
seal- symbol used as attestation or evidence of authenticity
iniquity- sin, wickedness, or evil

There are a lot of people that have since the beginning, and still do question God, Jesus, and the Bible as God's word. There are many that believe that God exists but do not believe that Jesus was his Son. There are many that may believe that God is the Father, Jesus is the Son but do not believe in the Holy Spirit. Some people do not believe any of it. Not too long ago, my teenage daughter asked me how do I know that God is real. I actually surprised myself with the answer I gave her. If I had known that she was going to ask, I would have prepared myself for the answer. Had we been at home, I would have referred to several scriptures. The fact is we were in a grocery store parking lot and I knew that she needed an answer right then and there. My answer to her was really quite simple and very rational and logical. I told her that when something is not real, it tends to fade, eventually being found to be false. I said that God's word and the news about Jesus has never faded or faltered although it has been protested since the beginning of creation. In order for something to "stick" that long, it has to be true. I thought it was a pretty good answer. After following up on the question, I have learned that it is exactly true and the reason that the Church is still active today.

Although there have been many evil forces that have come against the Church and there have been thousands of false doctrines taught about God and Jesus, God's firm foundation, the Church and His Word, still stands firm! There is evidence that has been seen by human eyes that prove that God is the Living God and that he is still in charge, he is still acting in the world and in our lives, he is still changing and transforming people, he is still healing the sick, opening blind eyes, and unstopping deaf ears! God is God and he never changes. When Moses asked God who he should tell the people he is, his name, God said, "Tell them that I am Who I am." He is the I Am and he does not change.

God's foundation comes with a seal. God's seal is two fold. The seal is divine sovereignty and human responsibility. Let's examine the two individually.
Divine sovereignty:
Let's start by defining the word sovereign. To be sovereign means to have supreme power or authority. Who has more power and authority than God? In Isaiah 40:25, it says, "To whom then will you liken me, or to whom shall I be equal?" God does not share power with anyone or anything. He is the supreme authority. We know that Jesus is the Son and God is the Father; Jesus says that the Father is in the Son and the Son is in the Father and the Son knows what the Father is doing and the Son does what the Father wants. Jesus also tells us something that demonstrates that God the Father is the highest authority in Mark 13:32 where Jesus says, "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father." He was answering the question "when will the world end?". There is no other power in heaven or on earth that can have their complete and total will be done, at any time, with no consequence, question, or no one to thwart it. In Isaiah 46: 9-10, it says, "Remember the former things of old, for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done", saying, "my counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure." God is supreme, he is the Almighty that rules with power and "who can stop the hand of God?". There is no other. He is the LORD of Hosts, the God of gods, the One and only true God.
Human responsibility:
Our responsibility starts with believing that Jesus is the Son of God, died and was resurrected so that we might have life. Once we believe we can receive. Receive what? Salvation. Romans 10:9-10 says, "if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." In order for every human to realize this responsibility, they have to learn about God and what he has done. We learn by reading the bible and we learn by hearing the gospel preached and/or taught to us. Romans 10:17 says, "so then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." When we are exposed to the gospel, we are convicted and then provoked by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit convicts us of our sin and then provokes us to turn to God and confess our sin and ask for forgiveness through Jesus Christ. Once we have received the gift of salvation, which is offered by the grace of God as a gift, we must have faith in God that he is who he is and will do what he says. Faith is the next human responsibility. When we accept both of these responsibilities, God starts to change our lives turning us away from sin by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

When we are lead by the Holy Spirit, we start to strive to be more like Jesus. He is the example for godly living. In our attempts to be more like Jesus through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we turn away from our sinful and wicked ways. It is impossible to receive Jesus into your heart and not have a life changing experience. If you truly receive him, your lifestyle will change, your habits will change, everything will change and the changes are us moving from living in the sinful, fleshly nature, to living in the spirit. By this, God knows, we know, and everyone else knows that we belong to Him. If you have doubt about whether or not you truly received Christ, let me ask you this one question. If I were to ask your friends or coworkers if you are a Christian, would they say yes, no, or I don't know? Acceptance of salvation and Jesus is something that you can't hide from everyone else.

If you have doubts about God or Jesus. If you are not sure if Jesus is the Son of God. I encourage you to give due diligence to researching the subject completely. There are facts about God that can't be hidden. Mysteries have been revealed throughout history. The foundation and basis to God's existence is available and in plain view. We can't help but to see it yet some still choose not to believe it. Norman L. Geisler wrote a book titled, "I don't have enough faith to be an Atheist". Think about that. Because of the firm foundation and abundance in evidence, it takes more faith to believe that God does not exist than it takes to believe that he does exist. Please click on the Salvation tab today and accept the human responsibility that God has been calling you to. We love you and support you! God bless you!
