When the Gospel Makes Sense

Colossians 1:27&28:
To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.

warn- to give notice, advice, or intimation to (a person, group, etc.) of danger,  impending evil
teach- to impart knowledge of or skill in; give instruction in

You have heard the old saying, "that's Greek to me", for some people, that is exactly how God's word is to them. If someone does not know Jesus as their Savior, and does not have the Holy Spirit living in them, there is no way they can make sense of the gospel of Jesus Christ. It is like reading a foreign language. The bible speaks of spiritual things discerned through God's wisdom. Someone that is not saved only has the wisdom of the world to use to interpret the gospel. This is why we are called blind before we become saved; we cannot see and understand the things that are from God. Once we turn to Jesus and seek his wisdom, the scales are removed and the gospel becomes clearer to us.

It is sometimes intellectually difficult to help someone understand what we know as Christians and followers of Christ. That is why it is important to "speak the truth in love" (Ephesians 4:15) rather than getting involved in harsh debates. The mystery has been revealed to us through the guidance and wisdom that the Holy Spirit provides. Matthew 13:11 says, "Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them." Who are they? They are people that have not yet accepted Christ. The best way that we can get people who are not saved interested, is by allowing them to see the overwhelming peace and joy that is in our lives that only Christ can provide. When unsaved people see this in your life, they start asking you about it. When they see you always smiling, hear you singing spiritual songs, see that you are always happy, they start wanting to know how to get what you have. We do not have to say a word when our actions speak abundance of joy. Colossians 3:16 says, "Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts." When people witness this display of gratefulness and gratitude, they wonder how you can feel that way knowing that you are going through trials in your life.

Once unsaved people get curious, they start to research what the bible says. Still, they cannot understand it because they do not possess the Helper, the Holy Spirit, as their guide. The Holy Spirit is like a life tour guide for Christians. When we rely completely on Jesus, the Holy Spirit guides our lives and directs our paths. By allowing the Holy Spirit to guide us, we are lead by God's wisdom instead of our own. 1 Corinthians 2:7 tells us, "No, we declare God's wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began". The gospel begins to make sense as we walk by faith in God and not by our sight.

Why would an unsaved person want to find out how to make the gospel make sense to them? God offers a reward to those that deny themselves, this life and follow him. What is that reward? Eternal life. In order to receive eternal life, you must turn away from sin and walk upright in righteousness. Romans 8:10 instructs us this way, "But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness". It does not matter how nice of a person you are or how much you give to charity. You will not inherit the Kingdom of God and eternal life unless you except the Son, Jesus Christ, as your Lord and Savior. Once someone that is not saved gives their life to Jesus, they soon realize just how patient God has been with them. You reading this may be experiencing God's patience right now and you do not know it. If you keep going through things that make you feel like you have no where to turn, no where to run, and no where to hide, then God has probably been trying to lead you to him! Why do you keep running? Can we out run God or hide from him? No! He will keep pulling at your heart strings until you come to the decision to serve him. Romans 2:4 explains, "Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance, and patience, not realizing that God's kindness is to lead lead you to repentance". Are you angry with God because of what you are going through? If you answered yes, then I want you to think about turning your anger into obedience. God is not trying to punish you, he is trying to get you to turn to him.

God wants everyone to be saved. He does not want to see one person not go to heaven. We do our best to present Jesus to everyone that we possibly can. We want people to experience what Jesus can do for them. We have seen it and we are living it. I can personally tell you that God is great! I am not someone that was born saved and has always been saved and life has been nothing but bowls of cherries. None of us can say that. We are all born into sin. We have all fallen short of the glory of God. We have all made mistakes, hurt others, and have done things that we really do not care to share openly. If I have to tell people how horrible of a person I was so that they can see what God has done in my life, I will do it gladly for the glory of God. You, as an unsaved person, are not able to understand what being in relationship with Jesus will do for your life and for the lives of the people around you. I cannot, as hard as I may try, get you to understand the mysteries of the gospel unless you give your life to Jesus. I can guarantee that you will not regret it and you will never want to look back. I know there are stubborn people out there that try to make sense out the gospel by using their worldly wisdom to try to dissect the word of God. I am not here to judge anyone, but I am here to tell you that until you start searching for truth, you will not be wise. Truth does not come from the world, it comes from God through his Son, Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:6 says, "We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing". Wow! What a statement. The wisdom of this world will get you no where. The wisdom of God will get you eternal life.

You see friends, Jesus is calling you to him right now. He is standing there with his hand held out toward you, waiting for you to take hold of it. He can coerce you into wanting to reach out to him but he cannot make you because of free will. If you want to understand how this all works then call on his name today and he will be there to open the door. Once you take hold of Jesus, then your eyes will be opened to this gospel that we share and it will all make perfect sense. You will even wonder how you did not get it before. Today is the day friends, join us in eternity! God bless you!! We love you!!
