The Ten Commandments Series- 6th Commandment

Exodus 20:13 You shall not murder
Summary This commandment is dealing with murder. It is commonly translated into, “You shall not kill”. This, however, is a common misinterpretation of the commandment. It does not state that one shall not kill, in terms of killing accidentally. It speaks in terms of murder. How is murder defined? Murder is defined as killing someone with malice aforethought. In other words, killing someone deliberately, intentionally, and/or premeditation. If someone kills another person unintentionally, or accidentally, that person has not broken this commandment.
In Deuteronomy 19:1-7, it says, “When theLordyour God has destroyed the nations whose land he is giving you, and when you have driven them out and settled in their towns and houses, then set aside for yourselves three cities in the land theLordyour God is giving you to possess. Determine the distances involved and divide into three parts the land theLordyour God is giving you as an inheritance, so that a person …

The Ten Commandments Series- 5th Commandment

Exodus 20:12
Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.

Why do you think God wants us to honor our parents? Is it really that important? Yes, it is for a couple of reasons. First, how can you honor your Father in heaven who you cannot see if you cannot honor your earthly father that you can see? This commandment is to teach us how to follow parental instruction. Our earthly parents give us direction in life that we can hear, see, and usually grasp. Their ideas and concepts are, for the most part, able to be easily processed by the human mind. This training from our parents is very important because it gets us ready to perceive and understand instruction from God, our Father, which is not always so easy to grasp. It is hard for us sometimes to go with what God is telling us to do. In our finite minds, we do not see how it will turn out to be good. If we have learned to trust His parental direction, since we have lear…

From Death to Life

John 5:24
"I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes Him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.

Matthew 16:24
"If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me"

It was only a few weeks ago that nature was dark, dreary, no color, somber, and just plain looked like death. Winter can really be a depressing time for a lot of people. Since I view depression as a tactic of Satan, I don't except it nor do I allow those feelings to exist in me. All of mother nature looked so desolate and deserted. A lot of animals hibernate during this time of the year, which leads me to think that they too want to avoid the gloomy season.

Over the past couple of weeks, it's like a switch has been flipped. All of nature's beauty has been put on display. The lights have come on. The trees, plants, and flowers have put on their Spring dress and are showing off their splendor. I…

The Passover Crucifixion

Exodus 12:1-13
The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, "This month for you shall be the beginning of months. It shall be the first month of the year for you. Tell all the congregation of Israel that on the tenth day of this month every man shall take a lamb according to their fathers' houses, a lamb for a household. And if the household is too small for a lamb, then he and his nearest neighbor shall take according to the number of persons; according to what each can eat you shall make your count for the lamb. Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male a year old. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats, and you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month, when the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill their lambs at twilight."
"Then they shall take some of the blood and put it on the doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they eat it. They shall eat the flesh that night, roasted on the fire; with unleavened…

The Ten Commandments Series- 4th Commandment

Exodus 20:8-11
Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
Summary The Jewish Sabbath begins on Friday at sunset and continues until sunset on Saturday. Jewish Christians used to worship in the synagogue on the Sabbath. Then they would gather on Sundays to celebrate the resurrection of Christ. This was known as the Lord's Day. After Jewish Christians were banned from synagogue worship, they began to only worship on Sunday. This event is what triggered the practice of Sunday worship which is still continued today.
There is some controve…

The Ten Commandments Series- 3rd Commandment

Exodus 20:7 “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
Summary: Most people who follow Jesus do not use profanity anyway. We all know that it is a big “no, no” to use God’s name in vain. There are times that we use His name in vain in other ways. We use or associate His name in ways or with things that go against His character. This is where we need to be very mindful of how we use God’s name.
Jesus told us not swear by the LORD’S name but to let our yes be yes and our no be no. (Matthew 5:37). We defame God’s name by doing such things.
If we say that we are followers of Christ and children of God, then our actions can also be a way of using God’s name in vain. We are representing God’s character and anything that we say or do that goes against the character of God is sin.

Be careful of how you use the LORD’S name. Be diligent to make sure you are using His name in line with His character. If we act and …
