Flesh vs. Spirit, Part 1

Galatians 5:16-17:
So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want.

Flesh vs. Spirit, Part 2

Romans 13:12-14:
The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.

light- Illumination. God's first act of creation was to bring light into existence. Represents truth and
darkness- the absence of light. darkness ruled the world before God's creation of light. symbolic of
man's sin, rebellion, and ignorance

Our time on earth is very short. We are here today and gone tomorrow. Paul is reminding us of this as well as letting us know that Christ will return soon. A lot of people get caught up in when Christ will return. The reason I say, "caught up", is because people tend to think they have plenty o…

Flesh vs. Spirit, Part 3

Romans 7:18-20:For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.

Get rid of the sin and you will get rid of the desire to do it!! Our flesh is in constant battle with God's Spirit that dwells within us. We naturally lean toward the things of the carnal nature. We want to please the flesh. What we fail to realize, until after we have sinned, what is pleasing to the flesh destroys the soul. Fulfilling fleshly desires brings guilt, sadness, shame and other feelings that devour our peace of mind. These things leave us feeling insecure and unable to form and nurture relationships, all relationships. Outer actions generally reflect inner emotions. That is why we take our frustrations out …

Same Sex Marriage Gets Support from Church Group

The United Church of Christ is suing North Carolina for the ban it has on same sex marriage. It is not that they necessarily support same sex marriage, but they are afraid that if the ban stands, government will start trying to regulate other areas of church function and ceremony. The position of the United Church of Christ is in serious debate on this matter. Some agree with the strategy while others believe that the church is sending out the message that they are condoning same sex marriage.

There is no doubt that Christianity and the church have come under heavy attack in recent times. It seems that the faith has been under fire from every angle and in every arena. We knew this was going to happen. The Bible predicts a time when few will follow the faith and many will turn their ear to a perverted gospel. I believe we are in those times now. As a church, we have to take a stand and draw the line in the sand somewhere. We cannot keep giving in to the societal whims and political cor…

Trusting in the Lord

Proverbs 3:5
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.

Matthew 6:28-30
And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you- you of little faith?

Isaiah 26:4
Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD, the LORD himself, is the Rock eternal.

Nehemiah 1:11
LORD, let your ear be attentive to the prayer of this your servant and to the prayer of your servants who delight in revering your name. Give your servant success today by granting him favor in the presence of this man.

We tend to start seeing ourselves sinking in the mire of life when we begin to take matters into our own hands. A lot of times, we want to be wise to the world and trust in ourselves. The reality of it is, apart fro…

Rule Book or Play Book?

This is a recent text conversation between a husband and wife.
Wife: “What is so wrong with me? Am I a terrible person?”
Husband: “You are a great person. I am thankful for u. Not many women would have done what you have done. I am grateful for that and I love u for it. I try to make u happy because of it. I don't feel in debt to u because of it but I try to give u happiness because of that fact and the fact I love u. You're not in debt to me either. I chose to help u, I didn't have to. You don't owe me anything for it. I hope u love me more than u would have because of it. I'm happy ur my wife. What are u wanting to be mad about so much? The past is gone. It's over. Yes, it took me a long time to get over it. I'm not mad about it anymore and u should not be mad at urself any more about it. We have moved past it. We should be happy that we have. Maybe if u focus more on what u have to be thankful to God for, u will be mad less. Maybe if u spent more time lea…
