Jesus is the Way

John 14:1-11
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us. Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father? Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.

“Believe in God, believe also in me”- Believe here is used in the sense of personal, relational trust. This is the heart of the gospel. If one does not believe in God the Father or in the Son Jesus, then one has no faith, no relationship, and no hope. You cannot believe in One and not the other because the Father is in the Son and the Son is in the Father. To believe in One and not the other is like saying that you believe in medicine, but you don’t believe in health care. Without one, there is no hope of the other. There is a relationship between the two, when mankind is thrown into the mix, there is a relationship between the three. Anyone that does not believe on Jesus does not understand Biblical atonement or a need for atonement of sin. Before Jesus, there was no personal relationship with God. There was division, distrust, and burdensome attempts for atonement of sin. There was a veil that divided man and God. That veil provided separation between a perfect God and a sinful human. A priest was the only hope for mankind. Man’s hopes rested on the priest getting it all right in order to provide a way out of sin for the entire human race. Man’s sin was too much to bear and the blood of animals wasn't enough to cover it.

Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. No one can get to the Father, or to heaven, unless they go through Jesus. When Jesus says here, “I am”, he is using a superlative that God Himself told the Israelites was His name (Exodus 3:14). For Jesus to say this to his disciples, he was inferring to them that he was God in the flesh. Jesus said, “he that hath seen me hath seen the Father”. This is what makes Jesus the bridge between heaven and earth. He was God in the flesh; He was God and He was man. He manifested Himself in the flesh to relate to mankind’s conditions and circumstances. He was tempted in every way- Hebrews 4:15- “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin”. God divested Himself of all deity, came to earth, as a man without sin, to be a servant and a perfect sacrifice for sin once and for all. He established a personal relationship between Himself and man, removing that veil of separation.

If we know Jesus, then we know the Father also. Jesus told Philip to believe him, that he and the Father are one. Faith in Jesus and acceptance of God’s salvation is what gets us into heaven. In this passage we see that faith is necessary for acceptance by the Father. Jesus goes on to tell Philip that if he can’t believe it because Jesus said so, then believe it because of the works (miracles, teaching, and actions) that Jesus had performed in their sight. This lets us know that although works alone will not get you into heaven, they are evidence of the truth within you.

Jesus has gone to prepare a place for us in the Father’s house (heaven). He wants us to be with him in paradise. He said that if he goes to prepare a place for us, then he will come back to get us. Jesus will return to the earth one day to receive his children unto himself. If you want to be a part of his coming for us, you must take action now. The end of your world could be today. In order to make heaven your home, you must repent of your sin and believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus is the Son of God. There is no other name under heaven or in earth by which man can be saved. To ignore accepting Jesus is the same as rejecting God. There is no way to the Father other than going through Jesus Christ. If you want to rest assured knowing that you will one day make heaven your home, then you must repent and accept Christ now. Pray the prayer of faith and believe on Jesus. He is waiting to answer you; all you have to do is call out to Him and ask to be saved. I pray that you come to that decision right now in the powerful and precious Name of Jesus Christ. Amen!
