Psalm 51:12

Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

When Jesus comes into our lives, he fills us with complete joy. Joy, unlike happiness, is not an emotion; it's a condition, or, even better, a position. We may not be able to control circumstances that make us happy or unhappy, but we can choose to have joy in any circumstance. How? By returning to, through prayer and reflection, what Christ has done in our lives. He changed us, he accepted us, he extended grace to us, he chose us and he calls us his own. Our names are written in heaven and we now belong to a Royal family. Our joy is found in Jesus, and he never leaves us or forsakes us, so our joy is always abiding within us.

Why should we ask God to grant us a willing spirit? What does that have to do with sustainability? A willing spirit is one who is always ready when God says go. Willingness places us in a position of faith. When God says go, a willing spirit doesn't debate, doesn't…
